Hello and thanks for stopping by! I am so excited to be a guest blogger for Sonja today!
When I asked her what she thought I should write about she had the brilliant suggestion of wedding planning tips! So perfect!!
Josh and I got engaged for my 27th birthday in August of last year. I knew I wanted a summer wedding and I knew I didn’t want to wait more than a year to get married so here we are getting married this August!! Wedding planning can be very fun but also very stressful so here are my top 5 wedding planning tips:
1. Make the day yours
You don’t have to have every cookie cutter thing that people have at weddings. Make the day about you and your significant other. It will mean more to you both in the end and it will make it more memorable for your guests. For example, Josh doesn’t really like cake, I could take it or leave it so we are not having a wedding cake (GASP!) we are just having a dessert table and then a cake pop at each person’s seat as a favor.
2. Enjoy the little moments
Like I said it is stressful. You may freak out, you may cry, your family may call you bridezilla but the little moments are going to be what you look back on and remember. It was so important to me to have my mom, step mom, little sister and best friend with me when I went dress shopping. I will never forget that day and getting to share finding “the” dress with all of them there.
3. Ask for help
I am an event planner for a college in Ohio. It is my “day” (but really a lot of nights too) job. I am busy; I have crazy hours and travel a lot for work. It is ok to ask your friends and family to help you with things. First, it will help you relax and second people really do want to help, they aren’t just saying it to be nice. If my 7 year old sister can help stuff invitations, anyone can do it
4. Don’t get caught up in the wedding, but get caught up in the marriage
I think this is something a lot of people do. The wedding is one day the marriage is the rest of your life. It is really easy to get caught up on all the details of the day but the most important thing is that at the end of the day you are married to your best friend. It is really easy to lose sight of that in the planning process. We try to limit wedding talk and wedding planning to one night a week (Wedding Wednesday) so it doesn’t feel like it is consuming all of our time together as a couple.
5. Have fun!!
I must admit I really struggle at this one but it is the most important one by far. The day is a celebration of you and your husband/wife. You will be surrounded by your closest friends and family all there to celebrate YOU! ENJOY IT!!!
I could go on for hours on more tips and tricks on wedding planning but no one likes a long winded guest blogger.
