Who Are You Blogging For?

You'll have to forgive me with the lack of Blissdom information that I'm sharing.
The majority of my notes are on my Macbook and I keep forgetting to download them.

When I first started this blog I wanted to document my running because it was "what everyone else was doing". Never mind the fact that I'm not a disciplined runner. I'm not even remotely an extreme healthy eater. I run when I want to or run when I can.

I may not PR but I finish without struggling.
Except for the last mile of Savannah. That almost ripped my legs off.

Who am I trying to fool? Ask me how many times I've ran in the last two months.
Zero.
Ask me when my next half marathon is.
In two and a half months.

PR'ing isn't in my near future. But I'll tell you what is.

Blog posts that come from the heart. Posts that actually mean something.
I won't be posting just for the heck of it.

Blogging isn't about gaining followers.
It's about content.
It's about quality over quantity.
It's about writing for yourself instead of trying to "fit in" with others in the blogosphere or on Twitter.

So many bloggers try to write what they think others want to read.
They hold back from writing what they really want to write in fear of judgement, criticism, or loss of readership.

You know what? I don't care if someone stops following because they don't want to read anymore. Maybe I wasn't their cup of tea. Maybe they couldn't relate.
That's okay.
Because the people who you are reaching out to are happy that you're being you.

I'm not a fashion blogger, healthy living blogger, or a frugal mom blogger (even though I should be).

I'm a real blogger with real life things going on. not that y'all aren't or don't have issues either.
I don't want to hide behind the computer screen and act like I don't have tons of hectic life things.

You, the reader, know about me going through post partum depression.
You know about the separation and divorce after Miss K was only 8 months old.
and you know about me dating already.

It doesn't get anymore real than this.

So ask yourself who you're blogging for.

I'm blogging for me.

Very inspirational advice! It reaffirms what I try to tell myself every time I hit "publish".

Hi there! I just happened to stop by your blog and I love this post! It's so true that we become obsessed with "numbers" that people tend to lose sight of why they began blogging in the first place

Well said! Blog about what you want and if people want to read it they will :) You just have to be happy with it!

Yes. Yes yes. I just had a LONG convo with a fellow blogger about this and related issues. Just because a certain niche/genre is successful for certain people or seems to be hot right now doesn't mean that's the right niche for your/my blog. I usually ask myself what the point of me having a blog is, as a kind of filter. If a post or other blog related activity doesn't make it through that screen, I don't do it. Which means I don't do a lot of things a lot of bloggers do, just because that's not the purpose of MY blog. What's that old saying, to thine own self be true? :)

it really makes you step back and reassess the blog. Love this post!

Agreed! I started blogging to keep family informed while I was overseas. I kept it going because I enjoyed it. I honestly don't think about how is reading anymore to an extent because I'm really just doing it for me. Even the aunt who joked about the posts I wrote didn't stop me from posting what I wanted. She didn't have to read.

I'm thankful I've recorded even the silly things because it has been a great reference for scrapbooking especially.

I think it's awesome you are blogging for you and sharing your story. :)

Yep, it's sharing stories and sharing the parts of ourselves that we feel comfortable doing, and you're doing an awesome job.

Love this blog design by the way. I'm not sure how "new" it is, but it's great!

Well done and I agree 100%. I have been planning a blog overhaul including a new name to make my blog more about lifestyle than any one specific thing. I'm not all about cleaning my house, cooking and making a happy home, that's just ONE part of me.

I think that Running in Pearls works on both levels... sure you like to run but honestly you're a mother, a woman and a lady that's constantly running with little K and all that so technically you are RUNNING in pearls most days I bet! ;)
